Sport Resolutions board member Alison Mitchell awarded Freedom of the City of London

We are delighted to congratulate our independent non-executive director, Alison Mitchell, on being awarded the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of her outstanding contribution to sports broadcasting.

Widely regarded as a trailblazer in sports commentary, Alison became the first British woman to commentate on the BBC’s Test Match Special in 2007. Since then, she has built an internationally respected broadcasting career spanning cricket, tennis, golf, gymnastics, and other major sporting events.

Over the course of her career, Alison has broken new ground for women in sports media, including becoming the first woman to deliver ball-by-ball cricket commentary for Australia’s ABC and the first woman to commentate on a televised men’s Ashes series for BT Sport.

Today, Alison continues to work across major international sporting events, including ICC Cricket World Cups and tennis Grand Slams, while remaining a key voice on BBC Test Match Special and presenting the BBC’s Stumped podcast.

In addition to her broadcasting work, Alison is a Patron of the MCC Foundation and serves as an independent non-executive director at Sport Resolutions.

Speaking following the ceremony at Guildhall, Alison said:

“I moved to London for broadcasting purposes in my 20s when there were no women doing lead commentary on mainstream sport that I was aware of. This great city has been my home ever since, with many happy hours spent in commentary boxes at Lord’s, the Oval and Wimbledon."

“The Freedom of the City of London is something that I never expected to receive. It is truly humbling to be recognised in this way.”

The Freedom of the City of London is one of the City’s oldest traditions and is awarded to individuals in recognition of outstanding contributions to London or public life.

Everyone at Sport Resolutions congratulates Alison on this well-deserved honour.
