Sport Resolutions strengthens commitment to gender equity through Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration
Sport Resolutions Joins the Global Movement for Gender Equity, Signing the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration
LONDON, UK – On the morning of its Annual Conference, Sport Resolutions signed the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport’s Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration. In doing so, Sport Resolutions has joined the world’s largest network dedicated to advancing gender equity in sport, formalising its commitment to embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion across its operations and encouraging the wider sporting community to do the same.
Sport Resolutions, as an independent dispute resolution body, is committed to ensuring fair, safe, and inclusive sporting environments in which everyone can participate and thrive. By driving integrity and accountability across sport, Sport Resolutions helps to build trust in sporting systems and supports greater equality, diversity, inclusion, and participation across the wider sporting community, including for women and girls.
Reflecting on this important signing and its integration into this global network, Sport Resolutions’ Independent Chair, Audley Sheppard KC shared:
"I am delighted that Sport Resolutions has become a signatory to the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration, reinforcing our commitment to gender equity in sport. As an independent dispute resolution body, we are committed to supporting fair, safe and inclusive sporting environments in which everyone can participate and thrive, including women and girls. Through our work and the diversity of our tribunals and investigators, we will continue to promote fairness, integrity and inclusion across sport "
In alignment with the IWG's mission, Sport Resolutions actively prioritises gender balance. Gender diversity is a key consideration when appointing tribunal panels, and in its wider safeguarding work, especially in cases involving women and girls, which helps foster trust in the process.
Annamarie Phelps, Co-Chair of the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG), added:
“We are delighted that Sport Resolutions are signing the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration. They provide key services to sport and sport’s stakeholders, indiscriminately supporting integrity, good governance and the creation of safe and equitable spaces that all women and girls deserve. We are looking forward to working with Sport Resolutions and having their expertise within the IWG's network as we continue to build a fairer future for sport and physical activity."
This announcement arrives just as the sports sector reflects on the discussions held at the recent Sport Resolutions Annual Conference. For more information on the event and to catch up on its insights, visit here.
