Members of the SCMP Legal Advice Service have been appointed

Members of the SCMP Legal Advice Service have been appointed

We are delighted to announce the formation of the SCMP Legal Advice Service (LAS) which will provide NGBs participating in the Safeguarding Case Management Programme (SCMP) with expert legal assistance in preparing for and/or attendance at safeguarding disciplinary hearings administered by Sport Resolutions.

Richard Harry, Chief Executive of Sport Resolutions said: “We were delighted to receive such a high level of interest from leading law firms and barristers’ chambers to join the SCMP Legal Advice Service. The establishment of this service provides NGBs with access to expert legal advice and the support needed to navigate the final stages of a safeguarding process.

At Sport Resolutions we are proud to play an increasingly key role in ensuring that sport is safe and accessible to all – and fair and independent processes are fundamental in that aim.

My thanks go to all members of the LAS in recognition of their support of the sport sector in providing their expertise and services at a significantly reduced cost”

The SCMP Legal Advice Service came into effect on 1st September 2022, and there are currently 41 sports that have signed up to the Programme.

Background

In 2019, with the support of Sport England, the National Lottery and LimeCulture, we launched the Safeguarding Case Management Pilot Service with 9 NGBs with the objective of providing end to end case management support in relation to safeguarding concerns and referrals.

In April 2022 the SCMP expanded to 18 NGBs providing them with access to expert safeguarding and legal support from members of the National Safeguarding Panel (NSP), at no cost to those NGBs, in the following areas:

  • Initial advice and assistance following a referral or disclosure
  • Investigations
  • Provision of independent first instance and appeal panels

Programme Partners

LimeCulture is working with Sport Resolutions to project manage the Safeguarding Case Management Programme and is available to offer support and advice to participating NGBs throughout the process. For more information on the SCMP please contact Charlotte Bond, Safeguarding in Sport Manager, at charlotte.bond@limeculture.co.uk for further information.

The SCMP is supported by Sport England with funding courtesy of the National Lottery.
