Members sought for ECB’s independent tribunal, Cricket Discipline Panel

The Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP) is the ECB’s independent tribunal, responsible for adjudicating on certain regulatory disciplinary matters within professional cricket on behalf of the ECB Board. Its function is to consider cases brought before it by the Cricket Regulator, the body responsible for monitoring compliance with and enforcement of adherence to the game’s regulations on behalf of the ECB, in relation to the ECB’s disciplinary regulations and other rules and/or regulations which contain disciplinary powers to be discharged by the CDP. 

The chair of the CDP, who has already been appointed, particularly invites applications from barristers or solicitors with expertise in sports regulation and discipline, former cricket players, and individuals with relevant experience in cricket, as well as those with other pertinent skills and expertise.

The majority of cases which come before the CDP relate to a breach of the ECB’s Professional Conduct Regulations, which contain various misconduct offences including bringing the game into disrepute (which gives rise to broad and varied cases), failure to comply with the ECB Anti-Discrimination Code, failing to comply with player eligibility requirements and use of improper equipment. However, the CDP also has a role to play in relation to other Regulations, including the Anti-Corruption Code, Player and Match Officials’ Minimum Standards, cricket Playing Conditions, Bowling Review Regulations, Pitch Regulations and Head Protector Regulations.
