Man charged over racist tweet about Liverpool star Mo Salah

A man has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence following a racist tweet directed at Liverpool star Mo Salah.

A hate crime investigation was launched after , Gary Hyland, 32, had posted an offensive tweet that featured a mocked-up image of Egyptian and Liverpool footballer Mo Salah.

The post was condemned by Everton and released a statement: “Everton condemns in the strongest terms any kind of racism. We have shared the material with the appropriate authorities and are looking into the matter further to understand if the Twitter user in question is known to the club in any way.”

The man was also charged with obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty.
