WADA declares North Korea non-compliant with World Anti-Doping Code

WADA declares North Korea non-compliant with World Anti-Doping Code

The World Anti-Doping Agency said North Korea’s Anti-Doping Committee has failed to comply with its code.

North Korea was given a four month deadline to address non-conformities with the World Anti-Doping Code or face the possibility of being declared non-compliant back in September.

WADA’s decision casts a shadow on Seoul’s bid to jointly host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games with a North Korean city.

Any country submitting a bid is required to be in compliance with WADA’s code.

“As the DPRK Anti-Doping Committee did not dispute WADA’s assertion of non-compliance, nor the consequences of non-compliance and/or the reinstatement conditions proposed by WADA within 21 days from the date of the formal notice, the assertion of non-compliance is deemed admitted. Furthermore, the consequences of non-compliance and the reinstatement conditions proposed by WADA in the formal notice are deemed accepted, and the formal notice is now a final decision.” WADA said in a statement.

WADA also said the issue will be raised at an International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, today, where sports officials from the two Koreas were expected to inform the committee of their decision to bid.
