Speaker Line-up Announced: International Federations in a Complex World: Law, Governance and Global Strategy

International Federations in a complex world: law, governance and global strategy

International Federations (IFs) have global responsibility for running their sports. To do so, they will need to be aware of a range of factors – such as global geo-politics, language and cultural differences, differing resources and sophistication, managing stakeholder interests, interaction with professional leagues and so on.

In this session we will look at legal and governance frameworks, and explore how IFs populate their governing bodies, settle their rules and procedures and how, if at all, those rules can be challenged.

We will look at how strategies are developed to grow sports while managing the interests of key stakeholders, including broadcasters, fans, athletes and their representative bodies.

This session will provide a practical and strategic insight into how IFs exercise authority, manage competing interests and operate at a global level.

The session will be moderated by sports journalist and broadcaster Manish Bhasin, joined by:

  • Dr. Tanja Haug | Independent Sports Lawyer, Governance & Integrity
  • Stuart Miller | Senior Exec. Director, Integrity & Legal, International Tennis Federation (ITF)
  • Sara María Moreno | Senior Legal Advisor, Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM)
  • Mikael Rentsch | Legal Director, Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI)
