Speaker Announcement | Sport Resolutions Annual Conference in Association with Winston & Strawn LLP

Speaker Announcement | Sport Resolutions Annual Conference in Association with Winston & Strawn LLP

We’re excited to announce the speakers for the panel titled “Safeguarding in Sport: Rethinking Legal Approaches and the Case for Global Standards.”

Safeguarding in sport is crucial, but are current legal approaches truly fit for purpose? This session at our 10th Annual Conference will explore the challenges of balancing a trauma-informed, victim-focused approach with the legal rights of the respondent.

Is the solution a shift toward an inquisitorial system, or could this impinge on the rights of the respondent? Can international federations create unified, global standards for safeguarding, and what barriers—legal, cultural, or financial—stand in the way?

Moderated by sports presenter Jacqui Oatley MBE, this session will feature dynamic discussions and insights on the future of safeguarding practices in sport, and whether change is necessary, radical, or otherwise.

Jacqui Oatley will be joined by:

  • Kacie Wallace, Team USA Athlete Ombuds
  • Annie Davis, Sport Safeguarding Consultant for World Athletics
  • Mark Gannon, Chief Executive, UK Coaching
  • Alexandra Richards, Head of Safeguarding, EFL
  • The Rt. Hon Sir Gary Hickinbottom, Barrister, 39 Essex Chambers

The session details, as well as the speaker profiles, can be found on our event page.

The Must-Attend Event for Sports & Law Professionals

Our 10th Annual Conference in association with Winston & Strawn LLP, scheduled for Thursday, 1st May 2025, will take place at the five-star Leonardo Royal London St Paul's Hotel. The milestone event will celebrate a decade of bringing together top legal and sports professionals to discuss the most pressing issues in the industry.

As always, the conference will feature an exceptional line-up of speakers and panellists, including leading experts in anti-doping, athlete welfare, good governance, and integrity. We are also excited to announce that TV presenter Jacqui Oatley MBE will be moderating the conference, bringing her expertise and dynamic presence to the event. Attendees will have the chance to engage in dynamic discussions, learn from thought leaders, and gain valuable insights into the latest trends shaping the future of sports law.

In addition to the informative sessions, the conference will provide ample networking opportunities, with over 250 professionals from the legal and sports sectors expected to attend. From a dedicated breakfast to networking coffee breaks and a post-conference drinks reception, there will be plenty of chances to connect and share ideas with like-minded peers.

A provisional agenda is available on our event page, and we will gradually announce detailed session topics and speaker profiles in the coming months.
